# Add “Add Stock” Fields to Product Quick Edit and Bulk Edit

To record new stock and its purchase cost straight from the products list, enable the "Add stock" fields for Quick Edit and Bulk Edit in [Cost of Goods: Product Cost & Profit Calculator for WooCommerce](https://wpfactory.com/item/cost-of-goods-for-woocommerce/). Go to **WPFactory > Cost of Goods**, **Products** sub-tab, **Quick and Bulk Edit** group. This is a Pro feature.

## Before you start

- WooCommerce, active, with **stock management** enabled on the products you want to update.
- [Cost of Goods: Product Cost & Profit Calculator for WooCommerce](https://wpfactory.com/item/cost-of-goods-for-woocommerce/) Pro. In the free version these two checkboxes are greyed out.
- The **Add stock** meta box on the product edit page is free; only its Quick and Bulk Edit variants are Pro. See the standalone [Add Stock and Calculate an Average Cost](https://wpfactory.com/docs/add-stock-average-cost/) guide. You do not need to enable the meta box for the Quick and Bulk Edit fields to work.

## Step-by-step

1. Go to **WPFactory > Cost of Goods** (also reachable at **WooCommerce > Settings > Cost of Goods**).
2. Stay on the **Products** sub-tab.
3. Find the **Quick and Bulk Edit** group.
4. Tick **"Add stock" fields > Quick Edit** and, optionally, **Bulk Actions > Edit**.
5. Click **Save changes**.

## Options reference

| Label | Option ID | Default | Free/Pro |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| "Add stock" fields: Quick Edit | `alg_wc_cog_products_add_stock_quick_edit` | `no` | Pro |
| "Add stock" fields: Bulk Actions > Edit | `alg_wc_cog_products_add_stock_bulk_edit` | `no` | Pro |
| Add stock: Cost calculation expression | `alg_wc_cog_products_add_stock_cost_calculation` | `( %stock_prev% * %cost_prev% + %stock% * %cost% ) / %stock_now%` | Pro |
| Add stock: Empty cost field | `alg_wc_cog_products_add_stock_empty_cost_action` | Prevents calculation | Pro |
| Add stock: Negative stock | `alg_wc_cog_products_add_stock_negative_stock` | `no` | Free |

The last three options sit in the **Add stock** group of the same sub-tab and apply to the meta box and to the Quick and Bulk Edit fields alike.

## Using the fields

Once enabled, Quick Edit and Bulk Edit show a **Cost of Goods: Add stock** heading with two fields, **Stock** and **Cost**, at the end of the edit panel.

1. Go to **Products > All Products**.
2. For one product, hover its row and click **Quick Edit**. For several, tick them, choose **Bulk actions > Edit** and click **Apply**.
3. Enter the quantity received in **Stock** and the unit cost you paid in **Cost**.
4. Click **Update**.

## How the fields behave

When you enter a new stock quantity and a cost, Cost of Goods adds the stock to inventory and recalculates a new average cost for the product. The product must have **Manage stock?** enabled in **Product data > Inventory**, otherwise there is no stock figure to update.

With the default expression, a product with 10 units at a cost of 5 that receives 10 more at 7 ends up with 20 units at an average cost of 6. In Bulk Edit, each selected product gets the same stock and cost added, and its average is calculated from its own previous stock and cost. Every addition is saved to the product's Add stock history.

Quick Edit and Bulk Edit act on the product row you edit. To add stock to individual variations, use the Add stock meta box on the product edit page, which lists the variations.

## If it does not work

- **The fields are missing:** you are on the free version, or the checkboxes were not saved.
- **Nothing changed after Update:** the **Cost** field was empty. With **Empty cost field** set to **Prevents calculation** (the default), the stock is not added either. Fill in a cost, or choose **Uses last cost value from "Add stock" history** or **Uses current cost**.
- **The stock number did not move:** **Manage stock?** is off for that product.
- **You cannot enter a negative number:** turn on **Negative stock** ("Allow negative stock values") to reduce stock this way.

## FAQ

### Is the Add stock feature free?

The Add stock meta box on the product edit page is free. Adding the fields to Quick Edit and Bulk Edit, the custom cost expression and the empty cost behavior are Pro.

### Does Add stock overwrite my product cost?

It replaces the Cost field with the new average, calculated from the previous stock and cost plus the stock and cost you add.

### Can I add stock to many products at once?

Yes, with **Bulk actions > Edit** once **Bulk Actions > Edit** is ticked in the Quick and Bulk Edit group.
