# Where to Position Your Custom Fields in WooCommerce Checkout

To control where a custom field appears at checkout, use the Position Options in [Custom Checkout Fields for WooCommerce](https://wpfactory.com/item/custom-checkout-fields-for-woocommerce/). You pick a section and a priority number, and the field slots into the WooCommerce checkout accordingly.

[![Position Options for a custom checkout field](https://wpfactory.com/wp-content/uploads/pasted-image-0-104-1024x449.png)](https://wpfactory.com/wp-content/uploads/pasted-image-0-104.png)

### Open the Position Options

1. Go to **WPFactory > Custom Checkout Fields** (also reachable at **WooCommerce > Settings > Custom Checkout Fields**).
2. Open the tab for the field you want to place (for example **Field #1**).
3. Scroll to the **Position Options** group.

### Options reference

| Label | Option ID | Default | Values |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Section | `alg_wc_ccf_section_1` | Billing | Billing, Shipping, Account, Order notes |
| Priority (i.e., order) | `alg_wc_ccf_priority_1` | 200 | Any number (lower shows higher) |

### What each section means

- **Billing:** places the field inside the billing address block.
- **Shipping:** places the field inside the shipping address block.
- **Account:** places the field with the account fields shown when a customer creates an account during checkout.
- **Order notes:** places the field in the additional information / order notes area.

### Setting the priority

Priority is a plain number. The field with the lowest number in a section appears first. WooCommerce's own core fields use spaced-out priorities, for example First name is 10, Last name is 20, and Email address is 110, so pick a number that lands your field where you want it. The default of 200 puts a new field after most core fields.

**Theme not respecting the order?** Some themes re-sort checkout fields. If your priority values are ignored, enable **Force fields sort by priority** on the General tab (`alg_wc_ccf_force_sort_by_priority`). See [Exploring the advanced settings](https://wpfactory.com/docs/).

### Get more fields

You can position one field in the free version. [Custom Checkout Fields for WooCommerce](https://wpfactory.com/item/custom-checkout-fields-for-woocommerce/) Pro lets you place up to 100 fields across all four sections.
