# VAT Number Field Options for WooCommerce Checkout

## WooCommerce EU VAT number field options

The EU VAT number field that [EU/UK VAT Manager for WooCommerce](https://wpfactory.com/item/eu-vat-for-woocommerce/) adds to checkout is configured at **WPFactory > EU VAT** (also reachable at **WooCommerce > Settings > EU VAT**), on the General sub-tab. Most of these options are free; the country and user-role targeting are Pro, and are marked below.

### Field text and behavior (Free)

- **Field label**, **Placeholder**, **Description**: the wording customers see.
- **VAT field will be**: optional, required, required in or except selected countries, or required when the company field is filled.
- **Priority**, **Max length**, **Clear**, **CSS class**, **Label CSS class**: position and presentation of the field.

### Confirmation notice (Free)

Enable **Confirmation notice** to prompt the customer when they leave the VAT field empty, and set the wording in **Confirmation notice text**. This is helpful when the field is optional but you still want to encourage B2B buyers to enter a number.

### Additional options

- **Add EU VAT field to sign-up form** (Free): also collect the number at registration.
- **Allow checkout on unregistered VAT numbers** (Pro): let customers complete checkout even when the number is not registered in VIES.
- **Payment Methods** (Pro): show selected gateways only when the VAT number is valid.

### Let customer decide and "valid VAT but not exempted" (Free)

- **Let customer decide**: the customer marks themselves as an individual or a business, which switches the field between optional and required.
- **Valid VAT but still paying?**: adds a checkbox for buyers who hold a valid number but must still pay VAT.

### Visibility and display

- **Show field for selected countries only** (Pro) and **Show field for selected user roles only** (Pro).
- **Show/hide by billing company** (Free) and **Hide EU VAT field from checkout** (Free).
- **Display** (Free): show the confirmed number after the order table or in the billing address.
