# Installing EU/UK VAT Manager for WooCommerce

To install EU/UK VAT Manager for WooCommerce, go to Plugins > Add New, search for EU VAT for WooCommerce, and click Install Now and Activate. For Pro, click Upload Plugin, select the Pro zip from your purchase, install and activate it, and enter your license key. Pro replaces the free version.

### What the plugin does

The EU/UK VAT Manager adds a VAT number field to your checkout, validates the number against the official VIES service in real time, and exempts qualifying B2B customers from VAT. The core validation is available in the free version.

- **Collect VAT numbers:** adds an EU VAT field to the checkout page (and, optionally, the registration form).
- **Real-time VIES validation:** checks each number against the EU VIES service as the customer types. This is included in the free version.
- **VAT exemption:** removes VAT for validated numbers, with rules for shipping country, base country, and selected countries.
- **Progress messages:** shows the customer live feedback while the number is checked.
- **PDF invoice integration:** writes the VAT number to invoices generated by compatible plugins.

### Free vs Pro

Real-time VIES validation, VAT exemption, preserve-VAT rules, progress messages, the order meta box and column, and the admin email summary are all in the [free version](https://wordpress.org/plugins/eu-vat-for-woocommerce/). Pro adds the restriction and advanced-check features: showing the field only for selected countries or user roles, restricting payment methods to valid-VAT customers, allowing checkout on unregistered numbers, checking the country by IP, and checking the company name against VIES. ### Install the free version

1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to **Plugins > Add New**.
2. Search for **EU VAT for WooCommerce**.
3. Locate the plugin by WPFactory and click **Install Now**.
4. Click **Activate**.

### Install the Pro version

1. Purchase a license on the [EU/UK VAT Manager](https://wpfactory.com/item/eu-vat-for-woocommerce/) page. You will receive a download link for the Pro zip file.
2. Go to **Plugins > Add New** and click **Upload Plugin**.
3. Select the downloaded zip file and click **Install Now**, then **Activate**.
4. Enter your license key when prompted so the plugin can receive updates.

The Pro version replaces the free version: you do not need to keep both active. If the free version is installed, Pro takes over automatically.

### Where the settings live

After activation, open the settings at **WPFactory > EU VAT** (also reachable at **WooCommerce > Settings > EU VAT**). The settings are split into sub-tabs: **General**, **Validation**, **Messages**, **Admin**, **Advanced**, and **Compatibility**.
