# How to Add a Page Background or Watermark to PDF Invoices

To add a background or watermark in PDF Invoices & Packing Slips Generator for WooCommerce, go to WPFactory > PDF Invoicing, open Doc: Invoice, and find Page Options. Set Page background image for an image behind the content, or Page foreground image for a watermark over it. Both fields take a path inside the WordPress uploads folder.

### Before you start

- Place the image in the WordPress uploads folder. Both fields take a *path inside the uploads folder*, for example `2026/01/letterhead.png`, not an uploaded file or a full URL.
- Keep **Set default images directory** enabled in the General section so relative paths resolve to the uploads folder.

### Steps

1. Go to **WPFactory > PDF Invoicing** (also reachable at **WooCommerce > Settings > PDF Invoicing**), open the **Doc: Invoice** section, and find **Page Options**.
2. For a background (drawn behind the content), set **Page background image** (`page_background_img`) to the image path.
3. For a watermark or stamp (drawn over the content), set **Page foreground image** (`page_foreground_img`) to the image path.
4. Save changes and generate a document to check the placement.

**Note:** both fields accept shortcodes, so you can vary the image by order, for example show a "PAID" foreground only for completed orders by combining it with an `[if]` condition. Size the image to your page format (for example A4) for a clean fit.

### Use cases

- Print onto a branded background so invoices match your stationery.
- Stamp a semi-transparent "COPY" watermark over reprints.
- Overlay a signature image in the foreground.

### Get more control

Backgrounds and watermarks are free for one document. [PDF Invoicing](https://wpfactory.com/item/pdf-invoicing-for-woocommerce/) Pro lets each document type use its own background and foreground. [See what Pro unlocks](https://wpfactory.com/item/pdf-invoicing-for-woocommerce/).
