# VAT Field Not Showing in Block-Based Checkout

If the VAT field from [EU/UK VAT Manager for WooCommerce](https://wpfactory.com/item/eu-vat-for-woocommerce/) does not appear in the WooCommerce checkout block, turn on **Checkout block field** at **WPFactory > EU VAT** (also reachable at **WooCommerce > Settings > EU VAT**) > **Advanced**. It is off by default, needs WooCommerce 8.9.1 or later, and is ignored while **Hide EU VAT field from checkout** is on.

## Symptoms

- The VAT field is missing from the block checkout.
- A browser console error such as `alg_wc_eu_vat_ajax_object is not defined`.
- Orders complete without a VAT number or exemption.

## Cause

The block checkout uses a separate field registration from the classic checkout, and it must be enabled. Script dependency or caching or minification plugins can also stop the validation script from loading.

## Requirements for the block field

## Fix

1. **Update WooCommerce and the plugin** to the latest versions.
2. **Enable the block field.** Go to **WPFactory > EU VAT** (also reachable at **WooCommerce > Settings > EU VAT**), **Advanced** sub-tab, and turn on **Checkout block field**.
3. **Check the General sub-tab** and make sure **Hide EU VAT field from checkout** is off.
4. **Add the script dependency** if you see the `alg_wc_eu_vat_ajax_object is not defined` error: enable **Add script dependency** on the Advanced sub-tab.
5. **Clear caches and disable JS minification or concatenation** temporarily to rule out an optimization conflict.
6. **Test with a default theme** and only WooCommerce plus the VAT plugin active. If the field appears, re-enable your other plugins one at a time to find the conflict.

## What the customer sees

In the block checkout the VAT field appears in the **Contact information** section, not next to the billing address as in the classic checkout. If you enabled **Let customer decide** or **Valid VAT but still paying?**, their checkboxes appear in the same section.

## If it still does not show

- **Field shows but never validates:** check the console for script errors and try **Add script dependency**.
- **Field hidden for some customers:** **Show field for selected countries only** or **Show field for selected user roles only** (Pro), or **Show/hide by billing company**, may be limiting it.
- **Need it working today:** switch the checkout page back to the classic `[woocommerce_checkout]` shortcode, where the field is always supported.
- Collect the console errors and contact support with your theme name and WordPress and WooCommerce versions.

### Why is the field in Contact information?

The plugin registers it as a block checkout field in the contact location.

### Does validation work the same in the block checkout?
