Problem Description #
Store owners expect to limit purchase of specific products per user, but the plugin applies limits globally (to all products). They believe the plugin is broken when the logic is actually due to limitations in the free version.
Common symptoms:
- Limits seem to apply across the entire store instead of just targeted products.
- Attempts to set limit per product (via product edit page) have no effect.
- Confusion when reading plugin docs vs support threads.
Cause:
- The “per-product limit” (or “limit per product or category/taxonomy”) feature is available only in the Pro version of the plugin. The free version supports only global limits or simpler configurations. WordPress.org+2WordPress.org+2
Solution
- Check your plugin version: Go to Plugins list and verify whether you have Free or Pro version.
- If using Free version and need per‑product limits: Upgrade to the Pro version. The Pro version supports per‑product, per‑category/tag, or taxonomy‑based limits. WPFactory+1
- After upgrade, re-configure limits: For each product you want to limit, go to the product’s settings (edit product), set the “limit per user” value, and save.
- Test with a test user account: Add products to cart and verify limit enforcement.
- If still no effect: Clear cache (if any caching plugin), and ensure no conflicts with other plugins.
Prerequisites
- Pro license of Maximum Products per User for WooCommerce.
- WordPress/WooCommerce versions compatible with plugin (per plugin page). WordPress.org+1
Additional Notes
- For bulk limitation (many products at once), Pro supports category/tag-based limits, easier than setting limits per product individually.
Document this distinction clearly in your public docs or admin wizard to avoid confusion.
