Problem Description #
After updating WooCommerce to a new version (e.g. 8.5.1), the popups from Popups for WooCommerce stop appearing; instead only default WooCommerce notices show.
Common symptoms #
- No popups on add-to-cart, coupon application or checkout notices after WC update. WordPress.org
- Users revert WooCommerce to earlier version and popups return. WordPress.org+1
Cause #
WooCommerce core sometimes changes how notices are generated or handled; when notice hooks or CSS classes change, the popup plugin may fail to detect or intercept the notices, thus relying on default notices. This causes compatibility breaks after WC updates.
Solution (step‑by‑step) #
- Update Popups for WooCommerce to the latest version. Plugin changelog shows regular compatibility fixes. WordPress.org+1
- Clear all caches (server, CDN, plugin cache) and browser cache. Sometimes old JS/CSS remains, preventing new behavior.
- Test in a clean environment: disable other plugins and switch to default theme, to exclude conflicts.
- If still not working: check browser console and server error log for JS or PHP errors. Report them in plugin support.
- If urgent: consider temporarily rolling back WooCommerce to a compatible version until plugin update is verified.
Prerequisites #
- Access to plugin updates and ability to clear caches.
- Backup before major updates.
Additional Notes #
- Because WooCommerce updates frequently, it’s a good practice to test plugin compatibility in a staging environment before production.
- Monitor plugin changelog for compatibility fixes after each Woo release.
