Problems with validation if vat contains spaces

Hi,

There is kind of a big issue with the VAT field in latest version of plugin and maybe in the past too.

I have a client that added the VAT number to checkout field with a space like this: RO 18104454 (he introduces the code with space)

The problem is that the code is considered valid and the client can order but the VAT taxes is not exempt from it’s order. Is there a way to fix this problem? Thank you!
