Hi Tom – looks like this new field is at the product level and not available on every variant. Is that true? If it were at the variant level, is there any chance of including the capability of adding more than the one field? Will the data be available to order exporting–I use the Advanced Order Export plugin, which can pull many custom fields when meta key is known. Thanks!
August 12, 2021 at 4:22 pm #87310Hi Scott,
Unfortunately, yes – currently notes are available for the main (i.e. variable) product only, and not for its variations. I do have it on my to-do list, but, to be honest, I’m not really sure how long it will take.
Regarding order exporting – currently, our product notes are not saved in the orders, however, they can be displayed in orders. The plugin will take current notes from the products included in the order and will display them. There is “Admin orders > Show product notes in admin orders” checkbox option for that (in “WooCommerce > Settings > Product Notes > Private/Public notes > Backend Options”). Unfortunately, it’s available in our Pro version only.
This being said, I could probably try to add it to the plugin, so that you could export notes directly from the orders.
P.S. If you’d need to export it from products though – our meta keys are
_alg_wc_internal_product_note
and_alg_wc_public_product_note
for the “private” and “public” notes respectively. However, as multiple notes can be added for a single product, they are stored in arrays, so the “Advanced Order Export” plugin must have an option to export arrays. Please let me know if it won’t export them properly, and I’ll take a look at their code to see if they have any filters available.P.P.S. Just wanted to note, that we do have options to export (and import) our product notes via WooCommerce standard tools in “Products > Export” (and “Products > Import”). You need to enable the corresponding options in “WooCommerce > Settings > Product Notes > Private/Public notes > Backend Options”. Again, unfortunately, these options are available in our Pro version only.
Hope that helps. Please let me know what you think.
August 17, 2021 at 9:27 pm #87311Hi Scott,
We’ve just released a new plugin version (v2.5.0) – now it’s possible to a) add product notes to variations, and b) export notes from order items.
Note per variation
You need to enable the new “Note per variation” checkbox option (in “WooCommerce > Settings > Product Notes > Private/Public notes > General Options”).
Currently, you can add only one note for each variation – we are planning to allow adding multiple notes for each variation (same as it is now with simple (or main variable) products) in the next plugin version.
Also, you can optionally show variation product notes on frontend, in each variation’s description – to do that you need to enable the new “Variation description” checkbox option (in “WooCommerce > Settings > Product Notes > Private/Public notes > Frontend Options”).
Exporting product notes from orders
You need to enable the new “Admin orders > Save in order items meta” option (in “WooCommerce > Settings > Product Notes > Private/Public notes > Backend Options”). Product notes will be saved in order item meta with the same keys as they are saved for products, i.e.
_alg_wc_internal_product_note
and_alg_wc_public_product_note
. Please note that you will be able to export notes only for new orders, i.e. after “Admin orders > Save in order items meta” option was enabled on your site. Please give it a try and let me know what you think.
