Valid VAT Numbers are stating as invalid

    Hello,

    I have this plugin installed on 4-5 different e-shops.

    I tried to perform a purchase on one of the shops and my (valid) VAT number could not be validated.

    Then, I tested on all the websites and the issue was the same.

    The errors in the logs files are:

    2023-04-10T22:56:00+00:00 INFO Error: Exception: MS_UNAVAILABLE (Country: [CY]; VAT ID: [xxxx-number]; Company: [COMPANY NAME]; Method: [soap])
2023-04-10T22:56:01+00:00 INFO Error: VAT ID not valid (Country: [CY]; VAT ID: [xxxx-number]; Company: [COMPANY NAME]; Method: [curl])

    Since these tickets are public I removed the actual values.

    Is there anything wrong with the VAT validation?

    I also noticed that sales on some of the websites have dropped lately – especially sales having to do with exports to EU members.

    * I updated the website’s software and your plugin to the latest version.

    Please advise.

    Hi Natasa,

    Since it happened on all sites at once, it’s probably an issue with VIES servers, once you get an error, please try it on this site, if VIES can’t validate a number (server unavailable, maintenance, etc..), the plugin won’t be able to validate as well.

    We can’t confirm if this particular issue has caused the sales drop, since B2B clients are more aware of frequent outages on VIES services and they “usually” contact store owners for such issues.

    If you still face the issue, please reach us directly with wp-admin access to [email protected], and provide us a VAT number that you have issues with.
