Does Slugs Manager Handle Taxonomy Slugs?

Short answer: no. Slugs Manager: Delete Old Permalinks from WordPress Database works on post slugs only. It does not scan or remove old category, tag, or other taxonomy term slugs. This article explains the scope so you know what to expect. The Old Slugs table is under WPFactory > Slugs Manager.

What Slugs Manager scans #

Slugs Manager reads the _wp_old_slug post meta, which WordPress stores when a post’s slug changes. That key only ever applies to posts (including pages, attachments, and custom post types). WordPress records old term slugs under a different key entirely (_wp_old_term_slug), which Slugs Manager never reads or deletes. So category and tag old slugs will not appear in the Old Slugs table, and removing all old slugs will not affect any term URLs.

If you need to manage taxonomy slugs #

  • Editing a term’s slug directly in Posts > Categories or Posts > Tags changes the live term URL. WordPress can redirect the old term URL to the new one on its own.
  • For any old term URL that still gets traffic, set up a 301 redirect with a dedicated redirect tool before changing the slug.
  • Only edit term data directly in the database as a last resort, and always with a full backup.
