Slugs Manager Troubleshooting

If Slugs Manager: Delete Old Permalinks from WordPress Database shows “No old slugs found,” there is usually nothing to remove; click Refresh list to confirm. If Pro Automatic Clean Ups are not running, check that Pro is active with a valid license and that DISABLE_WP_CRON is not set to true in wp-config.php. All settings are under WPFactory > Slugs Manager.

The list shows “No old slugs found” #

This usually means there is genuinely nothing to remove. To be sure:

  • Click Refresh list to reload the current results.
  • Go to Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes to rebuild permalinks. Changing and saving a post slug is what creates an old slug in the first place.
  • Another plugin or a manual database clean up may have already removed the old slugs.

Slugs Manager reads every _wp_old_slug record in the database, with no post-type filter, so if a post type has old slugs they will appear here regardless of type.

Automatic Clean Ups are not running (Pro) #

  • Confirm the Pro version is active with a valid license.
  • Scheduled Clean Ups rely on WP-Cron. If DISABLE_WP_CRON is set to true in wp-config.php, the schedule will not fire. Set up a real server cron instead, or remove that constant.
  • Some hosts throttle WP-Cron on low-traffic sites. A server cron calling wp-cron.php is more reliable.

Clean Up on Save Post is not working (Pro) #

  • Confirm Pro is active and the option is set to Yes.
  • This clears old slugs only for the post you just saved, not the whole site, so check that specific post’s old slugs.

Regenerate Slugs is not working (Pro) #

  • Confirm Pro is active and that you selected at least one post type before clicking Regenerate.
  • Regeneration only changes a slug when the title-based slug differs from the current one, so posts whose slug already matches the title are left untouched.
  • On very large sites the process can time out because it loads all matching posts at once. Regenerate in smaller batches by selecting fewer post types, and contact support if it keeps failing.

Always back up your database before bulk operations on permalinks.
