How to Import WooCommerce Subscriptions with Excel

To import subscription products in bulk, use WooCommerce Products Import & Export with Excel with the WooCommerce Subscriptions extension active. When Subscriptions is installed, a dedicated checkbox and subscription sample files appear on the import screen, and the subscription meta fields become mappable.

Before you start #

  • WooCommerce, active.
  • The WooCommerce Subscriptions extension, installed and active. The subscription option and fields appear only when it is detected.
  • Products Import & Export with Excel, active.

Subscription fields you can map #

With Subscriptions active, these meta fields are available on the import and export screens:

Field Meta key
Subscription price _subscription_price
Billing interval _subscription_period_interval
Billing period _subscription_period
Subscription length _subscription_length
Sign-up fee _subscription_sign_up_fee
Free trial length _subscription_trial_length
Free trial period _subscription_trial_period
Switching limit _subscription_limit
One time shipping _subscription_one_time_shipping

Run the import #

  1. Go to WPFactory > Product Import/Export > Import/Update Products.
  2. Download a subscription sample file. Two are linked next to the WooCommerce Subscriptions option: a simple subscription sample and a variable subscription sample.
  3. Upload your Excel file.
  4. Before you upload, tick the WooCommerce Subscriptions checkbox on the mapping screen.
  5. Map the subscription fields above along with the title and price columns.
  6. Click Upload.

A single-attribute row with the Subscriptions option ticked is saved as a simple subscription; a row with multiple attribute values or variations becomes a variable subscription.

Note: the subscription price you import also sets the product’s regular price, so a customer sees the recurring amount on the product page.
