How to Bulk Import WooCommerce Product Translations with Excel for WPML

To bulk import WooCommerce product translations for WPML, add Original Title and Language Code columns to your Excel file and map them in the WPML TRANSLATIONS section on the Import/Update Products tab at WPFactory > Product Import/Export in WooCommerce Products Import & Export with Excel. Each translated row is linked to its original product.

Before you start #

Step by step #

  1. In your import Excel file, add two columns: Original Title and Language Code.
  2. For your source-language products, the Original Title is not required and the default language set in WPML is used.
  3. For each translated product, set the Language Code and point Original Title at the source product’s title (or ID).
  4. Put the source-language rows above their translations, or import them first, so the original exists when its translation is processed.
  5. Open WPFactory > Product Import/Export, upload the file on the Import/Update Products tab, and map these columns to the ORIGINAL TITLE or ID and LANGUAGE CODE fields in the WPML TRANSLATIONS section, either by drag and drop or with Auto Match Columns.
  6. Run the import.

Example rows #

Title Original Title Language Code
Blue T-Shirt en
Blaues T-Shirt Blue T-Shirt de
T-shirt bleu Blue T-Shirt fr

Use the language codes configured in WPML > Languages.

A WPML sample file is linked at the top of the Import/Update Products screen when WPML is active.

  • An empty Language Code means the WPML default language.
  • An empty Original Title makes the row an original, not a translation.
  • A title is matched to an existing product with that exact title and then to its default-language version. You can use the original product’s ID instead.

If it does not work #

  • No WPML TRANSLATIONS section: WPML is not active.
  • Translations appear as separate products: the Original Title does not match the source title exactly. Use the product ID instead.
  • Wrong language assigned: the code does not match a WPML language code.

FAQ #

Can I translate categories and attributes this way? #

This mapping links products. Translate terms in WPML, or create them with the Import Terms tab first.

Can I use the product ID as the original? #

Yes. The field accepts the original title or ID.
