How does the plugin pick which categories to show?
Two ways. Automatic: relate by siblings (categories that share a parent with the current one), parents, children, grandparents, top-level, or grandchildren. Manual: pick the exact categories per product, per category, per tag, or per custom taxonomy, which override the automatic logic for that item only.
Where does the section appear on the page?
Single product pages have 5 position presets (before title, after summary, after the tabs, replacing 'Related products', and a custom hook). Shop and category archives have 4 position presets (top of archive, before products, after products, replacing the 'Related products' loop). Or drop the widget into any sidebar, or the shortcode anywhere a block can render.
Can I show different categories on different products?
Yes. Each product, category, tag, and custom taxonomy gets its own 'Related Categories' picker in the WP edit screen. The picker overrides the global automatic logic for that item only, so you can tune featured products or seasonal collections without touching the global settings.
What about layout, columns, and the look of the cards?
Set a categories limit, column count (1-12), sort order (name, ID, count, random, menu order), image size, and placeholder image. Override the markup with a custom template that supports placeholders like %is_active% to highlight the current category on archive pages.
Does this replace the native 'Related products' section?
Optional. There is a 'Hide Related products' toggle that removes the default WooCommerce 'Related products' loop if you want categories to take its slot. Leave it off if you want both.
Does it work with WPML or Polylang?
Yes. Category names, slugs, and links resolve to the active language. Each language sees its own category tree in the picker, so a French product page shows French category names in the Related Categories section.
Will this slow my site?
No. Output is cached via transients per product or per archive page. The cache invalidates when categories or the per-item picker change. No extra database tables, no AJAX on page load, no calls to remote services.
Is the plugin HPOS-compatible?
Yes. High-Performance Order Storage is declared compatible. Categories are taxonomy data, so HPOS doesn't change anything for this plugin, but the compatibility flag is set so WooCommerce doesn't show the legacy-storage warning.
Can I use the shortcode in page builders?
Yes. Use [alg_wc_related_categories_single] inside a product page (Elementor, Bricks, Divi, Gutenberg). Use [alg_wc_related_categories_loop] on shop / archive layouts. Both accept attributes for limit, columns, order, and template overrides.
Does it work with custom product taxonomies?
Yes. Any registered taxonomy attached to the product post type can have its own Related Categories picker. Useful for stores using brand taxonomies, collection taxonomies, or custom attribute-based taxonomies.
What is the refund policy?
14 days on the yearly and lifetime plans; 30 days on All Access. No questions asked. The yearly plan also includes an upgrade credit toward Lifetime or All Access. Lifetime never renews. Yearly auto-renew can be turned off in your account.
Is there a free version?
Yes. The free version on WordPress.org covers automatic sibling / parent / children relating, the widget, and basic display options. The Pro version adds per-product / per-category / per-tag / per-taxonomy manual overrides, custom templates with placeholders, transient caching, the 'Hide Related products' switch, the 'Always show first' option, WPML/Polylang integration, and priority support.
