Mini-Cart Popups Not Working After Theme or WooCommerce Update

If add to cart pop-ups stop working in your mini-cart or side cart after a theme or WooCommerce update, update Popups for WooCommerce: Add to Cart, Checkout & More, clear all caches, then check the Pro AJAX add to cart notice settings at WPFactory > Popups. Set a wrapper Selector if Smart find no longer finds one.

Common symptoms #

  • Adding a product shows the default notice, or nothing, instead of the pop-up.
  • The pop-up is missing only in the side-cart or mini-cart flow, not on the normal cart or checkout.

Why a mini-cart breaks the pop-up #

When a product is added by AJAX (from a shop page, a quick view or a side cart), WooCommerce does not print an add to cart notice. The Pro AJAX add to cart notice option fills that gap: after WooCommerce’s standard AJAX add to cart, it inserts a success notice into a notices wrapper, and the pop-up reads it from there. Two things can stop this after an update:

  • No wrapper is found. Notices wrapper – Smart find (on by default) looks for an empty WooCommerce container or an existing notice on the page. A new theme layout may have neither.
  • The side cart uses its own AJAX. The option listens to WooCommerce’s standard add to cart event. A side-cart plugin that adds products its own way may never trigger it.

AJAX add to cart notice options (Pro) #

Setting Option ID Default
AJAX add to cart notice ttt_pnwc_opt_ajax_add_to_cart_notice_enable No
Notices wrapper – Smart find ttt_pnwc_opt_ajax_add_to_cart_notice_wrapper_smart Yes
Notices wrapper – Action hook ttt_pnwc_opt_ajax_add_to_cart_notice_wrapper_hook Empty
Notices wrapper – Selector ttt_pnwc_opt_ajax_add_to_cart_notice_wrapper_selector Empty

The Action hook and Selector are only used when Smart find is off. For a selector, enter a CSS selector of an element that exists on your shop pages, for example the main content container; the wrapper is added at the start of it.

Fix it, step by step #

  1. Update both WooCommerce and Popup Notices to their latest versions; recent releases include checkout and mini-cart compatibility fixes.
  2. Clear caches (server, CDN, cache plugin), especially with aggressive caching or JS/CSS minification.
  3. Enable the AJAX add to cart notice (Pro): mini-carts add products via AJAX, so this option and its wrapper settings (Smart find, Action hook, or Selector) are what place the pop-up. See Show an add to cart pop-up on shop and archive pages.
  4. Test with a default theme such as Storefront and the default mini-cart to see whether the theme is overriding it.
  5. If it works on the default theme but not yours, the theme’s custom mini-cart needs a matching wrapper hook or selector; set one in the AJAX add to cart notice options.

Prevent it next time #

  • Re-test the mini-cart flow after each theme or WooCommerce update.
  • If you rely on the side-cart experience, include it in your update checklist.

FAQ #

Why does the pop-up work on the product page but not from the shop page? #

The product page reloads and WooCommerce prints a normal notice, which the free plugin turns into a pop-up. Shop page adds use AJAX with no notice, so they need the Pro AJAX add to cart notice option.

Which wrapper option should I try first? #

Keep Smart find on. If nothing appears, turn it off and enter a Selector for a container that exists on your shop and category pages.

Could caching cause this? #

Yes. Minified or combined JavaScript from an old cache can load the previous plugin script. Clear every cache after updating.
