If the remove icon on the My Account > Wishlist tab of Wishlist for WooCommerce does nothing when clicked, the removal request is failing in the browser or being blocked by a cached page. Check the browser console for errors, make sure My Account is never cached, then test with a default theme and only WooCommerce and the wishlist active.
Problem description #
On the My Account wishlist tab, the Remove (delete) icon appears, but clicking it does not remove the item. “Add to cart” in the same table may keep working.
Common symptoms #
- The remove icon is visible; a click gives no visual feedback and the item stays.
- On the standalone wishlist page, removal may work correctly, which points to something specific to the My Account page.
How removal works #
The remove icon uses the same background request as the Add to Wishlist button. The request carries a security token printed into the page. When the server confirms, the row is removed from the table on the spot, and the empty-wishlist message appears when the last row goes. So anything that stops the wishlist script, blocks the request or serves an outdated copy of the page stops removal.
Cause #
- JavaScript from the theme or another plugin breaks the wishlist script on the My Account page.
- The My Account page is cached, so the security token is out of date and the request is rejected.
- The request goes to an address that does not answer on your server setup.
Solution (step by step) #
- Check plugin and theme versions: update the wishlist plugin, WooCommerce and your theme. Outdated code may break the removal script.
- Check the browser console: open DevTools (F12 > Console), click Remove, and note any error (for example a 403, 404 or “undefined”). It tells you which script fails.
- Clear caches and exclude My Account: especially with a caching plugin or server cache, make sure account pages are excluded from the cache. If you cache other wishlist pages, tick WPFactory > Wishlist > General > Cache.
- Check the Ajax address: if requests fail with 404, try one of the suggested addresses under Advanced > Frontend Ajax URL.
- Test with a default theme and no other plugins: temporarily activate a default theme (for example Storefront) and disable all plugins except WooCommerce and the wishlist, then retry. Re-enable them one by one to find the conflict.
- If the problem persists: open a support ticket with a screenshot of the console errors, your theme name and the list of active plugins.
Prerequisites #
- Browser console access, the ability to switch themes and disable plugins, and admin access.
Additional notes #
- If your store heavily customizes the My Account templates, make sure the wishlist table is still output by the plugin’s tab (it renders
[alg_wc_wl]). - The Remove column is intentionally hidden when someone views a shared wishlist, so visitors cannot edit another person’s list.
- As a workaround while you investigate, customers can use the standalone wishlist page.
FAQ #
Why does removal work on the wishlist page but not in My Account? #
Usually because My Account is cached or runs extra scripts from the theme. Both pages use the same removal code.
Can I give customers a button to empty the whole list? #
Yes, with the free [alg_wc_wl_remove_all_btn] shortcode on your wishlist page.
Can items be removed automatically instead? #
Yes. See remove wishlist items automatically.
